Real-time fMRI neurofeedback setup. Acquired images are reconstructed and send to a laptop running in-house MATLAB (MathWorks Inc., Sherborn, MA, USA) scripts based on SPM8 (Wellcome Department of Cognitive Neurology, London, UK) functions to preprocess the images and extract the neurofeedback signal. The feedback value is send to a computer running Presentation software (Neurobehavioral Systems, Inc., Albany, CA, USA) and presented to the participant in the scanner as a thermometer value besides a picture of an alcoholic beverage
