The moderated mediation effect of cognitive reappraisal (CR) was tested by hierarchical regression, including the first- and second-stage moderated mediated model, each of which can be divided into the following three steps. For the first stage (dependent variable = self-esteem (SE)), age and sex were entered as a block in step 1, followed by main effects (childhood trauma (CT) and CR) in step 2, and moderators (CT × CR) in step 3. Then, for the second stage (dependent variable = depression/anxiety symptoms), age and sex were entered as a block in step 1, followed by main effects (CT, CR, and SE) in step 2, and moderators (SE × CR) in step 3
